{"id":6880,"date":"2020-03-05T23:00:13","date_gmt":"2020-03-06T03:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stclement-ottawa.org\/?p=6880"},"modified":"2026-03-14T20:19:29","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T00:19:29","slug":"so-what-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stclement-ottawa.org\/fr\/so-what-to-do\/","title":{"rendered":"Que devrais-je faire?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chers paroissiens,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So what are we to think about our current crisis?\u00a0 The whole world is trying to battle a virus, one of the tiniest creatures on planet earth, unable to be seen by the human eye.\u00a0 Yet this tiny creature has so much power!\u00a0 It reminds us that human life is fragile, and that we need to set our priorities straight.\u00a0 Because, one way or another, we are all going to die, and for some of us, it may be very soon.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are we putting first in our lives?\u00a0 What have we been doing with our lives?\u00a0 Where are we going?\u00a0 What does the future hold?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I would like to remind you that God created you to live in this time, and not in any other.\u00a0 He created your soul out of nothing and planted you in the period of time that He willed.\u00a0 This means that you can be confident that you have all the graces at your disposal to weather through the storm.\u00a0 You were not meant to live in the idyllic days of medieval Christendom, when the whole culture was Catholic.\u00a0\u00a0 You were meant to live now.\u00a0 This is your summons \u2013 to serve Christ and His Church in the here and now, in the context of a secular society seeking happiness is the wrong things and panicking about its physical health while totally ignoring its spiritual health.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But you will be a light to the world.\u00a0 You will be part of the solution.\u00a0 You are that remnant of God\u2019s people in a hostile world that will be sanctified by these very circumstances and crosses.\u00a0 Your purpose is found in relating to these circumstances in a Christian way.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I invite you to think less of yourselves and more of your neighbour.\u00a0 Yes, we are called to be \u201csocially distant\u201d in order to stop the spread of this virus.\u00a0 I get that.\u00a0 But we are also called to love our neighbour as ourselves.\u00a0 To keep our social ties alive.\u00a0 We are called to share, not to hoard toilet paper.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you know anyone who lives alone?\u00a0 Do you know people who might need help with their groceries?\u00a0 Do you know someone who is probably lonely and eager to hear from you by phone?
